The entire country is deeply saddened by the shootings in Tucson. It’s difficult to make sense out of this kind of violence and it shakes us to our very foundations when the target is an elected official and innocent bystanders, including a well respected judge and a nine year old girl. In the face of this kind of tragedy, it is important to maintain perspective. 

If the shooter is found to be mentally ill, it is essential to bear in mind a few facts about mental illness. Mental illnesses are biological disorders of the brain and treatment is effective for most people.

January 8 Day of Service - Volunteer at Wellspring

Mayor Greg Fischer has proclaimed January 8, as a citywide "Day of Service" to celebrate his first week in office and to encourage citizens to volunteer. This is a great opportunity for Wellspring supporters to start the New Year off right by giving back to our community. Visit to learn more about this event. The "Day of Service" is being coordinated by Metro United Way and includes 4 Wellspring projects! We would love your support in volunteering or recruiting others to volunteer to help Weatherize Houses or  Landscape.

Derby Preview Party April 26, 2011

The Event Committee began meeting in August to plan the 13th Annual Derby Preview Party, set for April 26, 2011 at Churchill Downs on Millionaire’s Row. The committee meets the last Tuesday of every month at noon and is open to new members. An Evening of Art, Music, and Advocacy

Rave reviews have followed this year’s Evening of Art, Music & Advocacy, sponsored by Wellspring, Bridgehaven and NAMI-Louisville.  Nearly 300 guests gathered on October 15th at The Speed Art Museum to view this year’s collection of art, jewelry, holiday cards, and gift baskets produced by participants in the art therapy programs at Wellspring and Bridgehaven.  As the mellow strains of vocalists/guitarists Charlie Merrill and David Moore filled the Sculpture Hall, guests mingled with the artists and selected works to purchase for their personal collections.

Celebration of Recovery Applauds Milestones Passed in 2010

Over 85 Wellspring participants were recognized at the 7th Annual Celebration Recovery at Wayside’s Hotel Louisville on October 29th. Guests enjoyed an expansive hot buffet, with the strains of Wellspring’s own Charlie Merrill as a backdrop.  Journey House graduate, Lisa Steffen shared her personal story of recovery; she was rewarded with a standing ovation for her powerfully motivating message.  Each participant was awarded a certificate celebrating their personal achievements over the past year and a journal to record their progress in the year ahead.

University of Dayton Alumni Chapter “Christmas off Campus” Event to Benefit Wellspring

On December 7ththe University of Dayton’s Louisville Alumni Chapter gathered and toured several Wellspring sites.  The tour passed five Wellspring houses, admired the beautiful lights, and stopped at two Wellspring houses to sing carols to the residents. The University of Dayton Alumni group "adopted" Journey as part of the Christmas off Campus celebration and made a donation to the organization. “This will be a great way to celebrate the holidays while helping to brighten the lives of Wellspring’s clients,” says UD Louisville Alumni Chapter President, Traci Hall.
